The City of Sausalito has replaced the aging equipment in the municipal parking lots with new Solar-Powered Multi-Space Meters (MSMs).

Why Did We Need A New System?

Sausalito’s old parking hardware was beyond its expected lifespan. An un-gated system is more user friendly since payment can be accepted at any pay station and both the hardware and software are more reliable than what we used to have.

How Does The System Work?

Each parking space in the public lots is assigned a space number. A sensor is embedded in each space, sensing when a vehicle pulls into the space. The sensor wirelessly informs the pay station that a vehicle has pulled in, and the software then allows 5 minutes for the customer to pre-pay for parking.

Resident SmartCards are available at the Municipal Lot #1 booth (the lot near the ferry terminal).

How Will The Parking Enforcement Officers Know That I’ve Paid?

All Officers will be equipped with handheld devices that communicate with the new MSMs through a wireless connection. The equipment communicates in real-time so the officer can be more efficient in their duties. Since the system keeps a detailed record of every parking session, it can alert Officers when someone entered and when they have exceeded their paid time - or failed to pay altogether.

What Are The Hours Of The Lots?

Below are the hours and rates for the lots.

LOT 1:   7am—10pm; $3.00 per hour

LOT 2:   7am—10pm; $3.00 per hour

LOT 3:   8am—10pm; $2.00 per hour

LOT 4:   8am—7pm; $1.00 per hour

Commuters, as well as downtown merchants and their employees, can still park downtown for their reduced rate of $4.00 per day.

You may apply for the new "Commuter SmartCard" at the Parking Booth in Lot #1.

Residents may continue to park for free for up to 3 hours every day between the hours of 7am and 6pm. However, you must use your resident SmartCard.

After 6pm, residents receive unlimited free parking until 7am the following morning.  Please use your SmartCard after 6 pm to register your parking session so the system knows that a resident vehicle is parked in the space. You should enter the amount of time you intend to use.

Hang-tags are no longer valid. Please apply for your resident or commuter SmartCard.

Come to the Parking Booth in the lot by the ferry landing and bring:
Current ID, and
Your Vehicle Registration, and
Proof of Residency (such as a Current Utility Bill or Property Tax Bill)
