|The Sausalito Library Foundation ensures the sustained excellence of the Sausalito Public Library by securing a permanent revenue source to enhance the Library’s programs, materials and environment.
Governed by a 7-member Board of Directors and supported by a 16-member Advisory Council, the Foundation is organized as a public charitable organization, entitled to receive fully tax-deductible contributions. The Foundation fund has been built by contributions from individual donors and community grants. Thanks to careful investment strategies and the generosity of our donors, this fund has grown each year. Please lend your support!
Library Makeover. In 2012 and 2013, the Foundation is matching funds with the Library’s capital improvements fund to optimize existing library space, expand its electronic capability, provide more usable space for children, and accommodate the increased traffic in our small, but comfortable facility.
Space Needs Assessment. In July 2010 the Library Foundation engaged the library facility planning firm of Page + Moris to assess the Library’s space needs and to identify strategies to more effectively use current Library space. The April 2011 report recommends both short- and long-term improvements. Please click here to view the report. A printed copy is available at the library.
Strategic Plan. To expand, deepen, and diversify the Library’s connection to the community, the Foundation funded a long-range strategic plan in 2007 that served as a blueprint to help staff prioritize resources and activities and guide the Foundation’s grant-making decisions. More recently, the Foundation funded a visit from library futurist and consultant Joan Frye Williams in June, 2013, to help begin a new round of strategic planning. Williams also gave a public presentation on the future of public libraries.

Newspaper Digitization. In 2009, in partnership with the Sausalito Historical Society, we funded a program to digitize the Sausalito News from 1895 to 1922. In 2015, the digitized collection was extended to 1957. Browse the archives of the Sausalito News here
