The Sausalito Sustainability Commission is sponsoring its annual e-waste disposal event on Saturday, January 11, 2014, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM in the Sausalito City Hall rear parking lot on Bee Street. Residents and businesses are invited to drop off non-working and obsolete electronics at the event.
The following e-waste will be collected, free of charge: computers, printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, servers, main frame units, networking equipment, systems, printed circuit boards, telephones and cellular phones, stereos, televisions and flat screens, DVD players and other consumer electronics. Please note that neither lamps nor batteries will be accepted.
E-waste collected will be shredded and mechanically separated into the primary commodities of steel, aluminum, copper and plastic for use in the manufacture of new products. No e-waste will be landfilled or exported as e-waste.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT - HOUSING ELEMENT
The City will be starting work on implementing and updating the Housing Element in January 2014. The work involves two tracks.
--The first track involves adopting a variety of Zoning Ordinance Amendments, which were pledged in the existing Housing Element (which was adopted in 2012). In order to be eligible for certification from the State for the upcoming Housing Element cycle, the City must follow through with these Ordinance amendments. If the existing Housing Element programs are not implemented, our eight year (2015-2023) cycle reverts to a four year cycle and our next Housing Element will be due in 2018, instead of 2023.
--The second track involves a minor update to the Housing Element and gaining certification by the State by January 31, 2015. The second track is reliant on the first track amendments being adopted.
Please see the attached flyer for more information. You can also visit our Housing Element Updates webpage (which will be updated as we move along in the process). There will be many opportunities to participate in the process—for those of you who were on the notification list for the Housing Element that we completed last year, you remain on this notification list and continue to receive updates with meeting dates and times. However, if you are no longer interested and would like to be removed from the notification, or wish to be added now, please e-mail Lilly Schinsing.
The first Housing Element Subcommittee meeting will be held in January, 2014 (date and time TBD).
Sausalito Library Seeking Volunteer Book Club Facilitator
We are seeking an enthusiastic volunteer with a little time on their hands to commit to a monthly book discussion group that will supplement our popular (and filled to capacity) "Lesser Known Novels." Theme, content and scheduling are flexible. Staff will arrange for space in City Hall during open hours, develop promotional materials and provide assistance to the right candidate. Prior book club experience not required but group facilitation, creativity and critical thinking skills are a plus. Ideal for active retirees.
If facilitating a fun and engaging program for our community is meant for you, please contact Assistant City Librarian Augie Webb at 415-289-4121 (or by email: email@example.com) to discuss the possibilities.
