Spring is on the way, which means that Sausalito can expect another seasonal influx of tourists on bicycles
. The return of large numbers of tourist bicycles also means the return of the City of Sausalito's Downtown Bike Parking and Congestion Management Program.
As with past years, the most visible sign of the Bike Parking and Congestion Management Program will be the closure of Tracy Way
to motor vehicle traffic. Beginning on Friday, March 10
, and continuing through the bicycle season, Tracy Way will become a valet parking area for bikes. The Tracy Way parking area helps keep bicycles off of Sausalito's crowded sidewalks. It also makes it simpler for tourists to patronize Sausalito's downtown merchants while they wait for the ferry.
Bicycle parking in the Tracy Way lot is free to Sausalito and Marin County residents. In addition, free bicycle parking is available in unattended parking areas adjacent to downtown, such as the bike parking area at the north end of Municipal Parking Lot 3
The Sausalito Police Department encourages residents and visitors to refrain from parking bicycles anywhere downtown other than designated bike parking areas or fixed bicycle racks. Sausalito City Ordinance No. 1222
, authorizes the City to impound improperly parked bicycles and to charge a $25 release fee. Downtown parking enforcement hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
