Does the greencycle material really get recycled?
Yes, it does. Bay Cities Refuse Service takes it to Richmond where they sell it to a professional composter to lower our garbage rates. Watch for the special “Compost Days” when Bay Cities brings back some of the composted materials for free distribution at the MLK facility.
Why did you miss my pickup this morning?
Lots of possibilities:
Either we didn’t see it or it was hidden behind a car.
The recycling did not get out early enough.
The cardboard wasn’t flattened.
A no-no like fluorescent tubes was in the garbage.
Call Bay Cities 332-3646 for more details.
Can I have a smaller can and pay less?
Yes. While it costs almost as much to pick up a small can as it does to pick up a large one, a small discount is offered for smaller cans. See the Starting Service and Rates Page.
What is the “first and third whole week” for greencycling?
The first whole week is the one with the first Monday in the month. The third is two weeks later.
How can I contact the Sausalito Sustainability Commission?
Come visit us. We meet the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 in the City Hall conference room. Please drop by and give us your ideas. Anyone who comes can be allocated 3 minutes to address the commission on any relevant topic. Also, you can contact us at wizard.sausalito@sbcglobal.net.
Who is the Wizard of Waste?
The Wizard is a mascot for the Commission. He shows up at community events and schools programs to promote good waste management practices. Look for The Wizard at parades and other events. Sometimes the Wizard magically appears as two or more wizards.
