Pay-by-Space Parking Lots

The City of Sausalito has replaced the aging equipment in the municipal parking lots with new Solar-Powered Multi-Space Meters (MSMs).

How Does The New System Work?

Each parking space in the public lots is assigned a space number. A sensor is embedded in each space, sensing when a vehicle pulls into the space. The sensor wirelessly informs the pay station that a vehicle has pulled in, and the software then allows 5 minutes for the customer to pre-pay for parking.

How Will The Parking Enforcement Officers Know That I’ve Paid?

All Officers will be equipped with handheld devices that communicate with the new MSMs through a wireless connection. The equipment communicates in real-time so the officer can be more efficient in their duties. Since the system keeps a detailed record of every parking session, it can alert Officers when someone has exceeded their paid time - or failed to pay altogether.

What Are The Hours Of The Lots?

Below are the hours and rates for the lots.
You MUST either pay for parking or use your SmartCard during these hours:

LOT 1:   7am—10pm; $3.00 per hour

LOT 2:   7am—10pm; $3.00 per hour

LOT 3:   8am—10pm; $2.00 per hour

LOT 4:   8am—6pm; $1.00 per hour

Residents may continue to park for free for up to 3 consecutive hours every day between the hours of 7am and 6pm. After 6pm, residents receive unlimited free parking until 7am the following morning.

NOTE: You MUST use your Residential Parking SmartCard every time you park - especially if you park after 6:00pm - or you will risk receiving a citation.

If you are staying longer than 3 hours during the hours noted above, you will be invoiced for any time in excess of 3 hours at regular lot rates.

To receive your SmartCard, come to the Parking Booth by the ferry landing and:
Bring ID, proof of current residency and your vehicle registration, and then...
Complete and sign an application, and then...
Pay a non-refundable $10.00 fee for the new card.
