City’s Disaster Preparedness Awareness Event is Saturday, October 13th at the Bay Model and Marinship Park from 1100 am to 2 PM.
The goal of this Disaster Preparedness Awareness Event is to educate the public regarding the importance of and methods for preparing themselves, their families, and their communities to best handle disasters and emergencies that they may encounter. The public will also have the opportunity to learn what steps the City of Sausalito is taking in the realm of disaster preparedness and emergency management.
Citizens will have the opportunity to speak with public safety professionals and view first hand emergency equipment from law enforcement, fire, and other organizations. A helicopter from the California Highway Patrol is scheduled to land at 1:00 PM.
This event is free to the public. Those that attend will be eligible to win raffle prizes such as sports memorabilia, certificates for dinners, disaster preparedness equipment/supplies, and other items of interest. The raffle will be held at approximately 1:45 PM and participants must be present to win.

Willow Creek Foundation and Sausalito Parks & Recreation will stage a Silent Auction to benefit children’s programs with many coveted auction items such as special getaway vacation packages, Jazz by the Bay tables & picnics, 49er 50yardline tickets, dinners and gift certificates to all your favorite places. All proceeds benefit Willow Creek Academy and Robin Sweeny Park Playground.
Arias in the Afternoon
Arias in the Afternoon with the San Francisco Opera Singers returns. This two-hour free program is once again sponsored by the Arques Charitable Education Trust and produced by the Sausalito Parks & Recreation Department. Come enjoy the San Francisco Opera in the beautiful and picturesque setting of Gabrielson Park. Reserved V.I.P. tables will go on sale September 4. These pre-set tables will include a chilled bottle of champagne and fresh strawberries.

Met Opera Discussion Group
At each meeting, host Tom Wilhite offers his preview of an upcoming opera from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Tom presents background on the composer and opera and gives commentary on audio and video selections from past performances. Meetings coincide with HD simulcasts screened at Sausalito’s CineArts theater. No advance registration required!

Project Announcements - Parking Lot 1 Fire Line Upgrades start October 11, 2012.
Bay Pacific Pipeline will begin demolition of sidewalk at the corner of Tracy Way and El Portal on 10/11/2012. This work will allow another contractor to install modern back flow valve on the fire line serving Parking Lot 1 and the Ferry Terminal. Valve replacement work will commence during the week of 10/15/2012. Replacement sidewalk will be installed as soon as is practical and safe to do following the completion of the plumbing work.
The Historic Landmarks Board and the Planning Commission are in the process of jointly reviewing a Design Review Permit to allow accessibility improvements, including but not limited to the removal of the band stand, installation of an at-grade paved surface and installation of five-foot wide paths around the fountain at Plaza Vina Del Mar located in the 700 block of Bridgeway (APN 065-074-01). On Monday morning, October 15th at 7:30AM at the Plaza Vina del Mar, the Historic Landmarks Board and the Planning Commission will be conducting a study session to review proposed materials and colors. The meeting will then be continued to Wednesday, October 17th at 6:30PM in the Council Chambers for a joint public hearing for the final review and approval of the proposed accessibility improvements. Public participation and comment is encouraged. You can participate and/or comment by attending the study session and/or the public hearing or you can provide a comment letter to the Community Development Department. | THINGS HAPPENING AROUND OUR COMMUNITY
SAUSALITO CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES NIGHT will be held Monday, October 15 from 7-9 PM in the Community Room of the Spinnaker Restaurant. The doors will open at 6:30 PM.
The event is moderated by the League of Women Voters and sponsored by the Sausalito Woman's Club. All candidates for the Sausalito City Council have been invited to participate.
The format for the evening includes a prepared statement from the candidates. They will also respond to two questions that reflect current issues. In addition, audience members are encouraged to submit written questions that will be posed to the candidates by the moderator.
