34th Annual Chili Cook-Off
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 from 11am to 4 pm in DUNPHY PARK
The air at Dunphy Park will be thick with the aroma of tomatoes, beans, peppers and spices. Come join us and experience booth after booth of delicious park-made chili. Tasting will begin at high noon. Purchase a $10 unlimited chili tasting band and visit each booth to try its unique and original chili. You will help decide the winners by casting your “bean vote.” Voting beans will be given to the first 1,000 people who purchase a tasting band so don’t bean late!
City Wide Yard Sale
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13 from 9 am to 2 pm in the MLK PARKING LOT
It’s time to start planning ahead. Sign up for Sausalito’s Community Yard Sale where your old goodies might be someone else’s new treasures. Make some money selling what you no longer need. Please no craft vendors or food vendors allowed and only garage/rummage sale items to be sold. The City reserves the right to refuse any items it does not view as appropriate for sale at this event.
Chose your spaces size: 19' x 9' 14' x 14' 10' x 18'. Yellow Space is 16' x 9'

Haunted House Call for Volunteers

Dogs in Sausalito - A few friendly reminders to assist you in avoiding a citation.
Sausalito is a very dog friendly city. Just look at all the businesses that put water bowls near their front doors and have treats available for our canine companions. However, this does not mean that everyone appreciates dogs, especially those with owners with bad manners and disregard for our City’s laws.
Sausalito does have a leash law! It is against the city ordinance to allow a dog to run off leash in any public place except at a designated dog park.
We also have a clean-up-after-your-dog law. Dog owners or handlers are required to pick up after their dog on any public ground or private property not belonging to the owner or handler. It is a separate violation for dog owners or handlers to have their dogs in public, but not be in possession of a baggie or wrapper to pick up after their dog.
Dogs are allowed on leash in most City parks. There are a few exceptions. Dogs are prohibited from Cazneau Park playground, Harrison Park playground, Robin Sweeny Park enclosed children only playground, and Southview Park enclosed children only playground.
Here is some additional incentive to obey the dog related laws in Sausalito if being considerate of others is not enough. The violation citations are expensive!
For 2012, a violation of any of these infractions will cost you $80. ($15 base fine and $65 in penalty assessments & surcharges levied by the court)
For 2013, a violation of any of these infractions will cost you $162. ($35 base fine and $127 in penalty assessments & surcharges levied by the court)
So, remember to keep your dog on a leash, and clean up after your four-legged friend!
Reade Lane will be closed to through traffic on October 1, 2012 through October 5, 2012 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm for construction of a public sanitary sewer line segment replacement job between 701/693 Bridgeway and 112/104 Bulkley Avenue on Reade Lane.
Residents at 100, 104, 112 Bulkley Avenue and 5, 7, and 10 Reade Lane should plan to leave with vehicles by 8:00 am and return after 5:00 pm. The contractor, Hardiman Construction's Trenchless Titan, will make every reasonable effort to accommodate residents leaving after 8:00 am or returning home prior to 5:00 pm; however, residents should expect significant delays when doing so.

Free and Discount Museum Passes
New from the Sausalito Public Library, Discover & Go provides access to free and discount museum passes that can be printed online. Click the link below to log into Discover & Go with your library card number and password. Museums available include the Bay Area Discovery Museum, the Asian Art Museum, the Exploratorium, and the Cartoon Art Museum. Additional museums will be available in the coming months. OF SPECIAL NOTE . . . .
At the City Council meeting Tuesday the 25th of September, Jim Swindler, Deputy General Manager of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District’s Ferry Division updated Council and the community on a project to replace the passenger access ramps, vessel docking float, and ferry vessel boarding gangways at the ferry landing to improve access for ferry passengers traveling to and from Sausalito. The project includes two key segments of work: (1) conducting the required environmental studies, and (2) the design, engineering, and construction of passenger access ramps, vessel docking float, and passenger gangways used for loading/unloading. The project will enhance passenger safety by providing improved loading/offloading operations for passengers and bicyclists, as well as improved accessibility for persons with disabilities. Access to the vessels, will be easier, faster, and safer for all ferry users.
Mr. Swindler also advised the Council and community on the recent award of a $2.4 million grant the District received to fund landside improvements in Sausalito. While conceptual masterplans for those improvements have been prepared and reviewed in the past, the City and the District expect to retain a design consultant using the grant funds to prepare and seek community input on several alternatives prior to recommending a project to the Council. A Council-approved project would then require Planning Commission, potentially Historic Landmarks Board, and Bay Conservation and Development Commission approval before construction can occur. City Council to begin interviews for City boards and commissions
On Tuesday, October 9, the Sausalito City Council will interview applicants for the Trees and Views Committee. If you are interested in serving on this board, please contact the City Clerk’s Office to schedule an interview. Applications are available on our website.
In addition, we are also accepting applications for many of the other Boards and Commissions such as the Historic Landmarks Board and Library Board of Trustees which have incurred recent resignations. A complete list of the City boards and commissions, along with the membership requirements can also be found on our website. Sanitary District to perform sewer line cleaning along Bridgeway
The Sausalito-Marin City Sanitary District (SMCSD) will be completing sewer line cleaning activities along Bridgeway Blvd from Harbor Street to Coloma Street starting October 1st and ending October 5th. During this time, to support the work, there may be temporary traffic delays along Bridgeway Blvd. If you have any questions please contact the SMCSD at (415) 332-0244.

The new boarding system will improve operations by providing a wider, more modern facility with reduced gangway slopes and float platforms for easier boarding and unloading of all passengers, including bicyclists and persons with disabilities, during all tide conditions. The new vessel boarding system will not change the current passenger capacity in the Golden Gate Sausalito Ferry Terminal landing area.
To maintain regularly scheduled ferry service for both Golden Gate and Blue and Gold Fleet during construction, a temporary ferry vessel boarding configuration will be used for about is six months. Trenching will occur for a distance of approximately 30 feet, to extend utilities to the new facilities. There is no dredging is associated with the construction.
The GGBHTD is serving as the Lead Agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and intends to adopt a Mitigated Negative Declaration for the project. An Initial Study has been prepared for the proposed project. The Initial Study identified potentially significant impacts associated with the project related to air quality, biological resources, cultural resources, and noise. Each of these impacts would be mitigated to less-than-significant levels with implementation of the identified mitigation measures, which are included as part of the project.

The Bay Area Discovery Museum presents the 26th Annual Goblin Jamboree Fundraiser, October 13 and 14, 2012
Celebrate the true Halloween spirit at the Annual Goblin Jamboree Fundraiser, the Bay Area’s best Halloween festival for children and families. This year marks the 26th anniversary of this spooky-but-not-scary festival for the Bay Area’s youngest children, ages 6 months to 8-years-old. Children and their families are invited to come in costume and explore the Bay Area Discovery Museum, transformed into a haunted wonderland complete with games, attractions, and live entertainment. Enroll in the witches’ school, take a train or pony ride, visit the petting zoo and enjoy a full brew of games, activities and live entertainment. The Goblin Jamboree Fundraiser provides a safe and fun opportunity for children to partake in fabulous family fun!
The Goblin Jamboree Fundraiser is organized by the Discovery Council, an all-volunteer auxiliary. All proceeds benefit the Museum’s educational programs, exhibits and community access initiatives. On Community Connections Day, Saturday October 13, 600 children and their families from Museum community partner organizations attend Goblin Jamboree with free transportation, admission, lunch, and a special goodie bag. Private donations help provide these families access to the Museum and a safe, fun and educational place to celebrate Halloween.
