COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Building Division Rolls Out New Concurrent Plan Check Process
The Building Division has initiated a new Concurrent Plan Check Process for the review and approval of construction plans for building permits. The new process will allow building, planning, engineering, sewer, and fire staff to review construction plans concurrently. Previously, construction plans were frequently reviewed by one staff member at a time. The Concurrent Plan Check Process is designed to provide a quicker turnaround and shorter time for permit issuance while still ensuring full compliance with City building, zoning, and public works requirements.

A flow chart is provided to assist in explaining the new process. For additional information on the new Concurrent Plan Check Process or the building permit submittal requirements and procedures go to: http://www.ci.sausalito.ca.us/Index.aspx?page=150 or contact Permit Technician Nichole Houstone at 289-4137 or nhoustone@ci.sausalito.ca.us.

ADMINISTRATION

Financial Credit Rating
Standard & Poor’s is the Credit Rating Agency that issues credit ratings for the debt of public and private corporations. Periodically, Standard & Poor’s reviews its credit ratings on the City’s 2006 General Obligation Bonds. On August 6, 2012, Standard & Poor’s reaffirmed its ‘AA- rating, with a stable outlook’, on Sausalito, Calif.'s general
obligation (GO) bonds. An excerpt from the report follows: “In our opinion, Sausalito has carefully managed its finances recently; it has built up reserves while funding capital expenditures.”

The complete report is available for viewing on the City’s web site, or on the Sausalito Dollars and Cents – the mobile app that can be downloaded for your Android smart phone or tablet. For more information contact Charlie Francis, Director of Administrative Services @ cfrancis@ci.sausalito.ca.us, or at 415-289-4105.

Sustainability Commission announces that the new totable carts for your garbage have arrived!!!
Sausalito now joins the rest of Marin County in having a food scrap recycling program included in your collection. This means green waste/compostables will be a weekly service, same as your regular garbage and recycling service.

Your new green cart is to be used for your household to place “green waste” and compostable (food scraps) in. We encourage you to utilize the cart weekly.

Your blue cart will be used for your “commingled” recycling. All glass, aluminum, tin, newspaper, junk mail, magazines, etc. is to be placed in this cart and placed at the curb every week. No need to separate, place it all in the cart.

Any old recycling or green waste containers you would like to get rid of will be picked up by Bay Cities and recycled. If you wish to recycle your old containers please contact us at 332-3646 to schedule the pick up on your normal collection day. If you failed to order your size-appropriate cart prior to delivery, please bear with Bay Cities as they deal with all the late calls to change them out.

If you have ANY questions about this new program, please call Bay Cities direct – they are glad to assist in working out any kinks.

 PUBLIC NOTICES

Accessory Dwelling Units
The Sausalito Planning Commission will hold a public hearing beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 and Wednesday September 19, 2012 in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 420 Litho Street, Sausalito on the Accessory Dwelling Unit ordinance.

Details: The Planning Commission will consider an ordinance amending Title 10 of the Sausalito Municipal Code to permit new Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) which meet specific criteria in the R-1, R-2 and R-3 Zoning Districts and legalize existing unpermitted ADUs which meet specific criteria in the R-1, R-2 and R-3 Zoning Districts. ADUs are also known as second units, granny units or in-law units. By way of background, the City adopted regulations in 1984 prohibiting the development of ADUs or second/granny units in all residential zoning districts. As part of the Housing Element Update, the City conducted a survey of residential property owners which indicated 15% of the 700+ survey respondents had an ADU on their property, and another 19% of respondents would be inclined to build an ADU if permitted by the City’s regulations.

The community has come to recognize ADUs as a low impact approach to addressing a portion of the community’s very low and low income housing needs, and the Housing Element Update thus establishes programs to both allow new ADUs and legalize existing ADUs built without permits. The ADU ordinance would implement the program identified in the draft Housing Element.

The draft ordinance may be reviewed at the Community Development Department, 420 Litho Street, Sausalito, between 7:30 A.M. and 5 P.M., Monday through Thursday and between 7:30 A.M. and noon on Friday or at http://www.ci.sausalito.ca.us/Index.aspx?page=578. Staff reports will be available at the City’s website (www.ci.sausalito.ca.us) on the Fridays preceding the Planning Commission meeting. If you have any questions, please contact Lilly Schinsing at 415-289-4134 or email LSchinsing@ci.sausalito.ca.us. Interested parties are invited to attend the public hearing and/or present written testimony at or before the hearings.
