The City of Sausalito is currently seeking qualified men and women who are interested in becoming a police officer for the City of Sausalito.

Compensation:  Starting Salary $5,421/Month*
• CalPERS: 2.7% @57 plan. Classic Members 2% @ 50
• $826.80 annual uniform allowance
• Cafeteria Plan (includes Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability)
• Voluntary Deferred Compensation plans available
• 120 hours annual vacation, additional after 5 years of service
• 96 hours annual sick leave with unlimited accrual
• 84 hours of Holiday In-lieu Payments paid in equal amounts each pay period
• Educational Incentives based on college degree and P.O.S.T. Intermediate/Advanced Certificate
• Longevity Incentives
• Tuition reimbursement up to $2000 per fiscal year
• $39/month gym reimbursement

Qualifications
The Sausalito Police Department strives to provide law enforcement services that focus on “quality of life” issues within our community. We are looking for quality applicants who have the desire to become part of our police department family and that will embrace the partnerships we have built with the citizens we serve. It is our department’s priority to be involved in the community, whether it is through community events, involvement in school programs, or neighborhood meetings.
As a police officer, you will perform regular law enforcement duties, criminal investigations, crime prevention, patrol, traffic, DUI enforcement and other public safety responsibilities. Officers are rotated through long and short-term specialty assignments including investigations, boat patrol, bicycle patrol, motorcycle patrol, training officer, multijurisdictional SRT & CNT Teams and perishable skills instructors. Officers are assigned to rotational shifts of 3/12 - 4/12.

Minimum Requirements
• High school graduate
• At least 21 years of age
• Possess a valid California Driver’s License
• United States citizen
• Normal hearing and vision (vision uncorrected 20/70)
• Good moral character and emotional stability
• P.O.S.T. Basic Academy student or graduate (mandatory) 
        Current police academy recruits may apply IF you are scheduled to graduate prior to 8-1-2015
• Military veterans encouraged to apply

Application Process
All applications must be accompanied by a resume, cover letter and copy of a current POST certificate (or proof of current police academy attendance). The cover letter should explain why you would like to be employed by the Sausalito Police Department. Other supporting data will not be accepted in lieu of application but may be attached to the completed application. Applications, resumes, cover letter, current POST certificate (or proof of current police academy attendance) and any other materials cannot be returned once submitted. Applications not completed as required will be subject to rejection and the applicant will be disqualified from the testing process. All applications are to be mailed or personally delivered to the department. No faxes or e-mailed applications accepted. Applications can be found on the City of Sausalito website. Selection Process
All applications, resumes, cover letters, and other submitted materials will be reviewed and evaluated. Successful candidates will then be invited to an oral interview related to the classification of Police Officer.
Successful candidates will be required to submit to a standard police background investigation including fingerprints, psychiatric evaluation, polygraph examination, and a full and complete physical examination (including drug screening) prior to appointment. Due to the nature of this position, conviction of any crime considered a felony under California statute is grounds for disqualification.

The Community
The Sausalito Police Department is one of Marin County’s most progressive departments. There are a total of 23 full time department personnel (19 of whom are sworn) to serve this unique community which is just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. The department also has a large volunteer program made up of 22 community members.
The Police Department actively participates in coordinating and policing many unique and widely attended special events each year, from parades to art festivals.

Sausalito is a small community of approximately 2 square miles with a population of 7,500 residents. Due to Sausalito’s superb location, scenic views and unusual shops, it is a major attraction for Bay Area visitors. It is not unusual to have the population bloom to 25,000 people on a weekend. The residents of Sausalito consider it one of the Bay Area’s most desirable cities to live in. The residents are well educated, friendly and take pride in their city.
