Library Cards and Circulation Policies

To apply for an e-card in order to use our online services, such as researching our databases or downloading books, click here.

To obtain a library card or upgrade your e-card, visit the library and show verification of residential address such as:

  • DMV driver's license, learner's permit or identification
  • Imprinted checks
  • Utility bill
  • Rental agreement
  • Rent receipt
  • Bank statement
  • Voter registration card
  • Cancelled mail with name and address

The library reserves the right to modify conditions for service at any time.

Loan Periods

  • Books, compact discs, Playaway audiobooks, audio cassettes, maps, pictures and pamphlet file materials - 3 weeks
  • DVDs - 1 week

Checkout Limits

  • Books on CD - 10
  • Magazines - 3 per title  
  • Music CD's - 10
  • DVD's - 5
  • Playaway® audiobooks - 2

Renewals 

  • Two renewals per item (if there are no requests for the item)
  • To renew your items online, click here.

Overdue Charges 

  • 10¢/day per item on books, compact discs, Playaway® audiobooks and audio cassettes (maximum $3 per item)
  • $1/day per item for DVDs (maximum $15 per item)

Lost Materials Charges 

  • Lost materials are charged at the price of item, plus a $4 processing fee.

Other Charges 

  • 50¢ for a lost library card
  • 50¢ for each reserve request

Returning Library Materials

There are two book and audio-visual materials drop locations:

  • Litho Street entrance to City Hall/Library building
  • City Hall parking lot (enter from Bee Street)

All borrowed items may be returned at any public library in Marin County.
